Pre-K

We are located in Albuquerque’s International District. Our program provides our youngest students with quality early childhood education. We provide ample opportunities to explore, experience and develop confidence, and their ability to learn.

The majority of our day provides opportunities for children to develop competence with materials, language, ideas, and concepts in a number of learning centers. We use the Three Cheers for Pre-K curriculum to plan and guide instruction. Portfolio documentation is collected as a means identifying and meeting the needs of individual students. Observational records are collected and aligned with the New Mexico Early Learning Outcomes and Essential Indicators.

We strive to promote a healthy social and emotional environment in which children develop self-regulation and a strong self-concept by providing many experiences such as adult-student and peer interactions in whole group singing, dancing, sharing and listening. We also provide small group experiences in math, writing, art, reading, dramatic play, blocks and sensory centers. Through independent exploration, small group and whole group activities children will build knowledge, self-esteem, and competence in physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and literacy skills giving our students a foundation for future success in school.

We recognize families as their child’s primary and most important teachers. For this reason we consider families as a critical part of our program. Families are encouraged to participate in their child’s education by volunteering in the classroom and the Emerson community, attending planned parent meetings, parent/teacher conferences, as well as field trips.
